Setting up a social area in Reading

I needed a bespoke home bar after hosting a gathering where we ran out space. I decided to search near Reading Station.

I found the site while scrolling and sent photos. Central Bedroom and Kitchens replied with a price that seemed fair for the work.

The journey of organising this project was honestly quite involved. I spent many hours reflecting on the layout of the room before ever choosing up the phone. My lounge area has always felt slightly unfinished, and having a dedicated zone for beverages felt like the ideal solution to that issue. I recall sitting in my kitchen staring at a messy surface filled with bottles and realising that everything had to shift. The initial interaction with the team was extremely straightforward, which provided me confidence. We discussed different aesthetics, from contemporary sleek designs to something classic and timber finishes. I was quite impressed by how many detail they requested about the measurements and the existing interior of my home. It felt like they truly desired the finished result to blend perfectly with the rest of the property. I provided multiple angles in the images I sent, ensuring sure every nook was clear. They clarified that the bespoke nature of the unit meant that accuracy was absolutely paramount to prevent any problems throughout the installation. We went forth and forth on possible materials, searching at swatches of laminate and various kinds of timber grain. It is surprising how much thought goes into selecting the correct handles, like knobs and fittings, which can completely alter the vibe of the entire construction. I wanted a place where I might comfortably mix cocktails for friends without needing to repeatedly run back to the pantry for ice or tools. The convenience of having everything in one place was the main driver for this investment. We finalised the blueprint following a brief consultation where every one of my questions about plumbing and lighting sockets were answered. I appreciated that they didn't hurry the planning phase, taking the time to ensure that the width of the racks was sufficient for my largest glassware. It seemed like a joint effort instead than a simple transaction, which is hard to locate nowadays.

The fitting date arrived sooner than expected, and the fitter was punctual and prepared. He began by laying down safety sheets to make sure my carpet remained tidy. Watching the components being unloaded was interesting, as the quality of the wood was immediately evident. He meticulously checked the levels of the floor before securing the main structure of the unit. I watched as the structure slowly gained form, changing a plain corner into a functional feature. The level of craftsmanship involved in scribing the panels to the uneven surfaces of my older home was notable. He explained how each piece slotted in to create total stability. We spent a bit of duration deciding on the exact height for the built-in fridge, making sure it was easy to reach but hidden away from direct view. The fitting of the counter was the most rewarding part of the whole process. Seeing the smooth top at last resting on the cabinets helped the vision feel to life. He next fitted the glass backsplash, which immediately made the space to feel double the size. The LEDs were connected afterward, and testing them for the first moment was a thrill. The warm light underneath the racks showcased the glassware beautifully. I could see exactly how handy this would be for night parties. The fitter was very careful, taking the effort to clean down each surface and clear any debris made during the drilling. He additionally demonstrated me the way to move the shelves if I ever wanted to house larger pieces. The focus to precision was truly exceptional, straight down to the silicone lines along the edges. It was clear that he took great satisfaction in his craft, which is always reassuring to see. We conducted a last walkthrough of the completed work to make all was to standard. I noted that one handle was slightly wobbly, and he fixed it straight away with a fast turn of a tool. This thoroughness was just what I was looking for when I arranged the service.

The completed area appears completely amazing and has become the main feature of my home. It offers a classy feel that had been previously lacking from my living space. The capacity is huge, enabling me to sort all my spirits, mixers, and specialist glassware in a unified unit. No more do I need to search through cramped kitchen shelves to find a bottle opener or a certain type of glass. Everything has its proper place, which renders hosting much much simpler and relaxing. I love the way the materials catch the light in the evenings, creating a inviting atmosphere. My friends have already complimented the design multiple occasions, with some even inquiring for the contact of the company who built it. It really seems like a bespoke addition made exactly for my needs. The elevation of the countertop is ideal for leaning around with a glass, and the built-in LED units provide just the correct amount of illumination without being overpowering. Even when not in use, it serves as a lovely item of cabinetry that elevates the whole look of the property. I used a bit effort arranging my bottles on the shelves to create a pleasing arrangement. The mirrored back truly assist in showcasing the labels and adding dimension to the tight space. It has encouraged me to try making new drinks that I previously thought were too fussy to bother in a normal setting. Having the sink close would have been good, but the area limits resulted in we decided against it to save cabinet space. This was a conscious decision we took at the planning phase, and I certainly not regret it. The extra drawer space for napkins and accessories is far more valuable to me in the long period.

There were a couple of small drawbacks that are worth mentioning for a balanced view. The wait time for the custom doors was a little longer than I initially hoped. It lasted about six days from the initial deposit to the actual installation appointment. While this is understandable for tailored work, it required a some of patience on my end. I had hoped to have it ready for fitted bar a specific event, but we passed that date by a week. However, the updates from the office regarding the progress was consistent, so I was not kept in the dark. I rather wait a little longer for a result that is built to last than receive a hasty work that breaks after a few years. The initial cost estimate was also slightly less than the total bill, mainly because I chose to improve the hardware and include extra internal lights midway during the build. These changes were entirely my choice, and the company was very transparent about the additional costs involved. Another small point was the amount of boxes remaining after the fitting. Although the technician cleaned up the build site well, there was a significant amount of cardboard to get rid of in my recycling. It wasn't a big deal, but something to consider if you have little waste space. Despite these minor details, the total journey was very positive. The quality of the finish is much better to anything I might have purchased from a shop. It feels solid and durable, and I am confident it will handle years of parties. I feel the worth it has added to my property well exceeds the upfront outlay. It has changed the way I use my downstairs area, making it far more social. I no longer sense cluttered when people visit.

Thinking back on the entire project, I am truly happy I went forward with it. The first idea came from a trip to a neighbour's house in Oxford, where they had a comparable setup. I realised then how greatly it enhanced the movement of the evening. When I returned to Reading, I began looking for local options and found that going with a specialist provider was the only route to achieve the exact style I desired. The ability to pick each element, from the shade of the paint to the position of the plug outlets, ensured the final result was just as I envisioned. I also had a small hidden drawer included for storing expensive items like fancy spoons. This level of customisation is what makes the service unique. It did not feel like a generic item being forced into a room where it didn't fit. Instead, it feels like it has always been a segment of the architecture. If you are considering a like-minded domestic improvement, my tip would be to remain patient and spend the time on the planning part. It is much easier to alter a sketch than it is to modify a cabinet once it is manufactured. The knowledge offered at the beginning was invaluable in stopping me from making simple mistakes, such as putting the cooler too near to a heat source. These small bits of wisdom are what you buy for when you hire skilled experts. I am currently planning at other areas of my house to see where else I could install built-in solutions. The outcome of this bar project has provided me the drive to tackle a bigger renovation in the kitchen next year. It is a wonderful upgrade to my daily routine, and I view forward to numerous years of using it with relatives and pals. Finding the right balance between looks and use was the aim, and I feel we reached it perfectly. The journey from a messy corner to a sleek social point was truly deserving the time and investment required. I today possess a home that I am really proud to share off to visitors. Reading has many great places to visit for a drink, but honestly, I now prefer staying at home and using my own personal setup. It provides the same atmosphere without the crowds or the commute. That itself is worth the entire undertaking. I am so happy with how the lighting works in the evening, creating a relaxing environment to unwind after a long shift at the office. It is the little luxuries like this that render house living so pleasant and enjoyable. I really appreciate the workmanship that was put into the finished product. The way the panels close with a soft thud tells plenty about the build quality. No detail was overlooked, and the total look is precisely what I hoped it would be when I originally started this process. It is a testament to the skill of the team and the quality of the materials utilised. I am a very happy customer.
